Tanks used in conventional water well systems must be large enough to keep the pump running for at least one minute before shutting off. The higher the flow rate of the system, the more tank capacity is required (i.e. the larger the tank). The function of the tank is to provide enough storage capacity between starting and stopping of the submersible pump in the well.
Franklin’s constant pressure systems (SubDrives and MonoDrives) adjust the speed of the pump to match water demand while keeping pressure constant. The purpose of the tank is to provide a buffer in the system. There is no need for storage, so a much smaller tank can be used in the system, taking up much less space and allowing water well professionals the opportunity to mount the system up off the ground. If there is no need to replace the pressure tank, SubDrives and MonoDrives also work just as well with large tanks already in place.
